Artists for Afghanistan Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization that was created in 2002 to raise awareness and funds for the women and children of Afghanistan through creative endeavors with a focus on education, literacy, and the arts.
For 20 years, Artists for Afghanistan Foundation helped to support schools, artistic projects and the Flower Street Café in Kabul (which closed in 2014) that created economic empowerment for women and their families by providing sustainable livelihoods. These projects ended when the security situation in Afghanistan became too unstable and many women were forced to stop working.
All donations to the Artists for Afghanistan Foundation are fully tax-deductible and will help the foundation provide access to online education, leadership training and vocational resources to Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan and those resettling in the United States.
Our Mission
When the Taliban regime returned to power in August 2021, the Afghan people saw their
country and lives turned upside down. Human rights and civil society vanished almost overnight
when the oppressive and barbaric Taliban began enforcing their medieval rules and edicts
influenced by extreme interpretations of Sharia law which seek to marginalize the participation
of women and girls in society.
Vulnerable populations such as women journalists, activists and leaders, girls, handicapped
individuals, LGBTQ and other minority groups in Afghanistan live in daily fear for their lives.
Their human rights and civil liberties are no longer protected under Taliban rule. Those who dare
protest Taliban rule suffer the worst punishment, and thousands of civilians have disappeared
without a trace.
Artists for Afghanistan Foundation distributes donated funds to vetted organizations and
NGOs who are currently helping Afghan women and girls secretly access online learning and
vocational training in Afghanistan and supporting those Afghan women and girls who have
recently resettled in the United States.
Our Partners
The following NGOs are vetted and established entities who have a track record in helping
Afghan women, girls and refugees with resettlement efforts, as well as providing access to
online education, leadership and vocational training, English classes and employment
assistance.
